Trade minister calls for responsible businesses ahead of Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day

The minister urged greater efforts from businesses in combating violations against customers’ rights.

Ahead of the Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day on March 15 themed “Responsible businesses, sustainable consumption in a new normal”, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh has called for active response from the business community to better realize customer rights.

In the context of severe Covid-19 impacts and Vietnam’s ongoing efforts in pursuing the dual target of both containing the pandemic and boosting economic recovery, Minister Anh suggested businesses to give priority to online operation.

“Enterprises should adopt new operation strategy to avoid disruption to production and business activities. The goal should be to ensure safe and convenient consumption, while limiting negative impacts on the environment,” Anh said.

The minister urged greater efforts from businesses in combating violations against customer rights, including false advertisement, selling low quality products, and exploiting the current pandemic situation to manipulate prices of essential goods for unfair gains.

“The trade ministry is committed to supporting local enterprises in the process of protecting customer rights not only during the month of the Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day, but also for the rest of 2021,” stressed Anh.

The Vietnamese government selects March 15 as the Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day, which aims to raise public awareness in protecting customers' rights and contribute to a healthy and civilized consumption environment, a key step in maintaining driving forces for economic growth, innovation and creativity.
