Storm Bailu, a strengthened a tropical depression over the Philippine sea on Tuesday, is located about 16.5 degrees’ north latitude, 128.5 degrees’ east longitude, about 680km from Luzon island to the east at 1:00pm today.

The strongest wind in the storm center is at level 8-9 (60-90km/h according to Vietnam's scale), the NCHMF said.

It is forecast that in the next 24 hours, the storm will move in the northwest direction with a speed of about 20km per hour. By 1:00pm on August 23, the location of the storm will be about 20.0 degrees’ north latitude, 125.5 degrees’ east longitude, about 550km from Taiwan to the southeast. The strongest wind is predicted at level 10-11 (90-115km/hour according to Vietnam's scale).

In the next 72 to 96 hours, the storm will go deep inland and weaken rapidly into a tropical depression, then a low pressure area.

On the mainland, due to the influence of low pressure in combination with the convergence of wind from 1500m to 5000m, tonight, in the northern region of Vietnam, provinces of Son La, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, there will appear moderate rainfall and heavy rain with 30-70mm/24h, even over 100mm/24h and will last until August 23.
