Under the reform, imported goods are subject to three level check, ranging from close to standard and simplified inspection.

The customs check reform was submitted to the Prime Minister in September 2020 for approval.

Reform of food safety inspection and quality control regulations for imported products is expected to promote IT application, apply risk management and simplify the inspection process for imported products, reduce costs and time of customs clearance.

It also encourages the participation of private entities in carrying out certain stages of customs procedures as well as protecting national production and environment, the rights and health of the community and improving work efficiency to ensure strict management and regulatory compliance.

The reform aims at reorganizing the process in a simple and effective manner and defining clear responsibilities among parties including ministries, customs authority and relevant organizations.
