Vietnam demands Netflix correct news on MH370 documentary

Vietnam said the docuseries does not reflect the efforts of Vietnamese authorities and cause public discontent.

“MH370: The Plane That Disappeared”, a British docuseries released on Netflix making the assertion that Vietnam did not support the search for the missing plane 9 years ago is untrue and causes public discontent.

Deputy Spokeswoman of Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said at the press conference today [April 6].

She affirmed that Vietnam swiftly took the initiative to prepare a response plan immediately after learning that the plan might have vanished in its waters.

With the intention of conducting a thorough search, Vietnam actively exchanged information and coordinated with Malaysia and other nations, and created favorable conditions for the operation of the media.

At that time, Vietnam’s efforts were recognized by the international community, domestic and foreign press.

In regard to the MH370 case, the authorities, according to Hang, have not yet come to a definitive conclusion. The Netflix production’s allegation is false, unsubstantiated, and “causes discontent among Vietnamese public opinion,” in addition to being unrepresentative of Vietnam's efforts, she said.

“We request that the production company and filmmaker accurately depict Vietnam’s contributions to the search and recovery of Malaysia’s MH370 plane, remove and modify inappropriate content,” the Deputy Spokeswoman stressed.

In 2014, Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 vanished while en route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Beijing, China, along with all 239 passengers on board. Nine years later, a global community of family members, scientists, investigators, and journalists is still searching for answers.
