Vietnam scored 77 out of 100 points in the “Global Crisis Perceptions” index released Wednesday by Singapore’s leading social research agency Blackbox Research and international online panel specialist Toluna.

The index measured between April 3 and 19 the sentiments of approximately 12,500 citizens across 23 countries towards their national Covid-19 crisis management efforts, covering four key performance indicators namely national political leadership, corporate leadership, community, and media.

Up to 94% of Vietnamese people felt that keeping the public informed on the pandemic with accurate information had worked in their favor in managing the disease, contributing to the country’s fight against Covid-19.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Blackbox Research David Black said Vietnam’s impressive score reflects the country’s swift and strict measures to clamp down on the spread of the virus, as well as its regular and transparent communication with the public on ongoing case investigations.

“Vietnam’s effectiveness in curbing the spread of the virus so far has led to a heightened level of trust and confidence of citizens in their leaders, especially when we compare the country with some of its Southeast Asian neighbors who have at times struggled with testing, contact tracing and dealing with new clusters of cases,” Vietnam News Agency reported.

China, where the virus is thought to have originated, ranked highest in the citizens’ survey, with a score of 85 out of 100. Vietnam is followed by the United Arab Emirates (59) and India (59).

New Zealand (56) is the only Western country with an index score higher than the global average of 45 – indicating that citizens in Western countries are generally less satisfied with their countries’ performances.

As of May 14, Vietnam confirmed 288 coronavirus cases and no death. Of the total infections, 260 are reported to have recovered.
