Explore vibrant French-speaking tapestry later this month
Hanoi’s film lovers are in for a treat as they embark on a cinematic journey through the diverse and vibrant landscapes of the French-speaking community.
The Hanoi Times — The 15th edition of the Francophone Film Festival will offer audiences an intimate look at the human experience through stories from French-speaking nations around the world.

In the week from March 21 to 27 at the National Cinema Center, Hanoi, eight films from Canada, France, Switzerland, Belgium (Wallonia-Bruxelles), Morocco, Haiti, Egypt, and Greece will be presented at this annual cultural event. The diverse lineup spans genres including drama, documentary, and animation, with each film offering unique, multifaceted insights into life, culture, and humanity.
Highlights include "Music of Freedom" (Haut et fort) from Morocco, a gripping drama about Anas, a rapper-turned-teacher whose inspirational journey impacts youth in northern Europe. This film won the Positive Cinema Award at the 2021 Cannes International Film Festival and took home multiple accolades at the Arte Mare de Bastia Film Festival in France, including Grand Prize, Best Film, and Best Soundtrack.
Another notable feature is the Canadian documentary "Living together" (Cohabiter), which explores the lives of urban youth and their quest for harmony in shared living spaces. This thought-provoking film won the Official Selection Documentary Award at the 2024 TIFF Film Festival, cementing its place in global cinema.

For lovers of classic tales, the Swiss film "Heidi" offers a fresh and heartwarming take on the endearing story of a little girl who finds joy and simplicity in the Swiss Alps. Winner of the Best Children's Film Award at the 2016 German Film Institute Awards, the film has also been nominated for several prestigious Swiss film awards.
The festival also features a number of other noteworthy films, including "The Night Has Gone" (Plumes, a collaboration between France, Egypt, the Netherlands, and Greece); "Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Wind" (Sirocco et le Royaume des courants d'air), Belgium & France; "The Bringer of Hope" (Les porteurs d'espoir), Canada; "The Missing Piece" (Une part manquete), Belgium/France; and "Freda" (Haiti).
The 15th Francophone Film Festival is part of the celebrations of International Francophone Day [March 20], providing cinematic masterpieces and promoting cultural exchange between Vietnam and the wider Francophone community.

Organized by the Group of Francophone Embassies, Delegations and Organizations in Vietnam (GADIF) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, this festival continues to be a vibrant platform for celebrating the cultural and linguistic diversity within the Francophone world.
Since its inception in 2007, the Francophone Film Festival has become a highly anticipated annual event in Vietnam.

The film “Freda” will be screened at the Embassy of Haiti, located at 16-D5A Peach Garden Residences, 679 Lang Long Quan Street, Tay Ho District, Hanoi. |
