Hanoi's tourism slightly expands in October

The number of visitors to Hanoi only increased slightly in October compared to the previous month, requiring local authorities to take more drastic measures to meet the goal of welcoming more than one million foreign tourists.

Hanoi’s tourism sector continued its recovery as the number of visitors expanded slightly month-on-month to 1.51 million in October 2022, the local Department of Tourism said on October 26.

Of the total, there are about 1.3 million national tourists and more than 212,000 foreign visitors. The total revenue from tourism activities in October 2022 was estimated at almost VND4 trillion (US$161 million).

In September, Hanoi welcomed 1.48 million visitors, including more than 1.3 million domestic tourists and about 184,400 foreign visitors.

After ten months, Hanoi has received a total of about 15.38 million visitors, of whom 14.4 million are domestic tourists. The two figures are five times those registered in the same period of 2021.

Total revenue from tourism activities in ten months is estimated at VND43.7 trillion, up 400% year-on-year. The ratio of room occupancy in local hotels is 35% from January-October, up 14.1% year-on-year.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the increases in the number of visitors and room occupancy prove the stable recovery of the city’s tourism sector.

Strong demand from the domestic market remains the driving force behind the city's tourism sector, while Hanoi would have to take a long way to reach its goal of attracting international visitors.

After ten months, some 983,000 international visitors have arrived in the city, while Hanoi targets to receive 1-1.2 million international tourists in 2022.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, Nguyen Hong Minh, said the city would undertake strong measures in November and December to boost tourism activities.

The city will hold the Hanoi Ao Dai Festival and a contest to select the Hanoi Tourism Ambassador and another to choose the musical theme of the city's tourism sector, he said.

He said the city would also continue nurturing critical tourism services such as cultural tourism, sports tourism, meeting-incentive-conference-exhibition (MICE), and experiential tourism.

He added that cooperation with other provinces would also be strengthened to promote package tours to different localities by organizing festivals and events.

“Travelers will get opportunities to visit craft villages and cultural-historical sites in provinces surrounding Hanoi,” Minh said.
