About 200,000 Hanoians to get Covid-19 vaccines per day

The vaccination campaign is aimed at expanding the vaccination coverage in the capital city.

Hanoi will carry out a massive Covid-19 vaccination campaign in the whole city, peaking at 200,000 injections per day, said Ngo Khanh Hoang, deputy head of the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC).

“This Covid-19 vaccination campaign is aimed at expanding the vaccination coverage the widest possible,” he said at a meeting held in the capital city on June 23.

The vaccine roll-out will comply with current Covid-19 countermeasures, including safe distance and no gathering, Hoang said, adding that the campaign must be carried out in a timely manner for prioritized beneficiaries and ensure fairness and transparency to all people.

The Hanoi CDC has set up three methods to implement the campaign. The first one is to establish 1,000 -1,200 injection centers throughout the city, including mobile and on-site ones, while the second is to set up two injection venues in every commune and ward. The third one is to determine the number of injection sites in line with the city's size of the population (nearly ten million people).

Hanh suggested that the relevant agencies must deploy the vaccination campaign in a quick and effective way but have to ensure social distancing. “A number of mobile teams should be set up to support vaccination in districts when needed.”

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Health Hoang Duc Hanh said that Hanoi has gone nine days without any new Covid-19 cases in the community.

Since the new wave started in late April, local infections have been recorded in 45 cities and provinces across Vietnam, led by the northern province of Bac Giang with 5,502 cases and Ho Chi Minh City with 2,100.

Hanoi recorded 466 Covid-19 patients, fourth in the country for the past two months.

Vietnam's latest Covid-19 wave has seen 10,657 infections and the health ministry confirmed 70 deaths in the country, of which 35 have been recorded in the latest outbreak.
