Made-in-Vietnam shockproof T-shirt to cool off doctors amid Covid-19 pandemic

The T-shirt is designed with four pockets to contain the cooling dry ice packs to be given to doctors in Bac Giang, the current Covid-19 hotspot in northern Vietnam.

The National Hospital of Traditional Medicine under the Ministry of Public Security has researched a thermal shockproof T-shirt to help health workers who are on the front lines to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Senior Lieutenant Le Thi Hoa, a medical staff at the hospital’s Infection Control Department, has invented this thermal shockproof T-shirt which resembles a mesh shirt and is very comfortable.

The T-shirt is designed with four pockets to contain the cooling dry ice packs to be given to doctors in Bac Giang, the current Covid-19 hotspot in northern Vietnam.

Wearing a protective gear is mandatory so that health workers can avoid being infected with the novel coronavirus when they come into contact with high-risk cases. The gear also makes health workers sweat profusely in this hot weather. The thermal shockproof T-shirt meets the urgent requirements of frontline doctors and nurses to freshen up.

The thermal shockproof T-shirt does not interfere with the design of the protective gear, so it does not take time to get the permission in accordance with regulations. The dry ice bags in the shirt weigh some 500gram and are wrapped by a layer of insulation foam with a thickness of 1cm to prevent the ice from directly touching the human skin. They are also placed in a zip bag for water proofing.

The National Hospital of Traditional Medicine said that the thermal shockproof T-shirt can be effective in 6-8 hours that is the duration of a shift. The hospital will quickly coordinate with the relevant units to produce the shirt in large quantities.

This is considered a quick and suitable solution when medical staff work under blazingly hot temperature.

The thermal shockproof T-shirt fits inside the protective suit and does not hinder the activities of medical staffs, helping them to cool off.

The National Hospital of Traditional Medicine has sent over 60 thermal shockproof T-shirts to the field hospital in Bac Giang province.
