APEC 2017: Start-ups forum starting from September 11-12

Asia – Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2017 Start-ups forum will be held in the sideline of APEC Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Ministerial Meeting on September 11-12 at Ho Chi Minh city.

According to the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry (VCCI), the APEC 2017 Start-ups forum is expected to attract the participation of 300 representatives from Vietnam and APEC with an aim to promote creative and start-up ideas among young business people.

Moreover, this will be a platform for regional leading start-ups to meet and promote start-up spirit in Vietnam; a chance for countries to share experiences, ideas and instruments supporting start-up, in turn forming an APEC start-up community with the objective of connection, proactive and creativity.

In particular, the APEC 2017 Start-ups forum will discuss solutions to support Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially start-up enterprises such as: creating conditions for MSMEs to innovate, transform and taking opportunities in regional and global integration, in turn access the global value chain right after start-up; increase economic and social growth sustainably and environmental friendly.

According to VCCI, MSMEs are considered the spine of APEC’s economy, as such, the forming of ecosystem, a community and APEC’s start-up network are an important factor to support the start-up community at developing countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam to develop and flourish. Because, start-up is not only the start of a business, but also is the longevity of these enterprises.

On the other hand, ideas and discussion at the APEC 2017 Start-ups forum will contribute to the “Joint statement on promoting start-up and MSMEs”, which is expected to be the result of the APEC SME Ministerial Meeting. Besides, the meeting will create favorable conditions for Vietnam to cooperate with other members of APEC in various fields.

The tentative plan of APEC 2017 Start-ups forum is as follow: on September 11, exhibition of start-up projects; workshop connecting start-ups with investors; and the conference “Innovative and dynamic start-ups and MSMEs in the APEC region – Experience from Canada”; at the end is the gala dinner and music show to welcome delegates of the APEC 2017 Start-ups forum.

On September 12 is the plenary session: APEC Start-up ecosystem along with concurrent thematic sessions, such as Innovative start-up in the digital era; Education and Training on entrepreneurship, enhancing career readiness, startup for youth; Business services for startups: Finance for startups, incubator, co-working space, business consultancy, etc.; Sustainable business start-up
