Car sales in Vietnam up 5.8% yoy in 2018

Domestically assembled cars dominated Vietnam’s market in 2018, with sale number reaching 215,704 units in 2018, up 10.6% year-on-year, while imported completely-built-units (CBUs) were 72,979 units, down 6.2%, local media reported.

The number of car sales as of the end of 2018 are reported at 288,683 units, up 5.8% year-on-year, according to Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA).

This would result in a 790 cars sold per day. 

Upon breaking down, 196,949 sold units were passenger cars, up 27.7% year-on-year; 84,598 commercial vehicles, down 19.2%%; and 7,136 special-purpose vehicles, down 48.5%. 

Domestically assembled cars dominated Vietnam’s market in 2018, with sale number reaching 215,704 units in 2018, up 10.6% year-on-year, while imported completely-built-units (CBUs) were 72,979 units, down 6.2%.

Last December, a total of 34,234 cars were sold, including 23,984 passenger cars,, up 9.3% month-on-month 9,745 commercial cars up 14.5% and 505 special-purposes vehicles, down 15.8%

In 2018, domestic automaker Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO) maintained the largest market share with 96,127 unit sold, up 7% year-on-year, followed by Toyota Vietnam with 65,859 units, up 11% and Honda Vietnam 27,099, up 12%. 

Ford Vietnam and General Motors Vietnam came in the fourth and fifth places with 24,636, down 14% year-on-year and 12,334 units, up 17%, respectively.
