Deepening Vietnam - Italia strategic partnership effectively
On the afternoon of January 9, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung hosted a reception in Hanoi for former Prime Minister of Italy Enrico Letta, during his working visit in Vietnam.

The host leader took the occasion to call for Italy’s support for signing the Viet Nam-EU free trade agreement soon. The PM said he is delighted at the development of the two countries’ time-honoured friendship and cooperation, which is most recently reflected by the signing of an action plan on the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership. The Vietnamese Government leader also addressed his desire for Italy’s support to facilitate the early signing of a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the EU, alongside its backing for the stance of Vietnam and ASEAN regarding the East Sea issue.
For his part, former PM Enrico Letta pledged continued efforts in fostering the two countries’ relations and shared Viet Nam’s view and position on regional security. PM Enrico Letta stated Italy always attaches importance to enhancing ties with Vietnam, adding that achievements resulting from the two countries’ cooperation have brought practical benefits to Italian development. He concurred with the intent to settle the issues in the East Sea through peaceful means and on the basis of international law.
The Italian government has included Viet Nam in the top ten emerging economies for prioritized trade and investment development. He expressed hope that with his prestige and affection for Vietnam, Enrico Letta will continue his contributions to boosting bilateral collaboration across the fields of security, defence, economy, trade, education, and interpersonal exchange, as well as at regional and international forums.
