Enterprises striving to sustainable development

The program of Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) has supported for more than 140 enterprises in fields of wood processing, mechanics and garment with positive results. The program will be expanded to beneficiaries in other fields in the coming time.

This is information from the conference “Improving productivity for integration into global supply chain” held on October 27 at Ho Chi Minh city by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry – Ho Chi Minh in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO). The conference is aimed to share information and new perspective on opportunities and challenges for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of Vietnam when taking part in the global chain value.

According to senior expert on economy of the World Bank – Mr. Brian Mtonya, in the context of current globalization, wit the rapid growth of science and technologies, especially when the the industrial revolution 4.0 is near approaching, as well as changes in recent wage policy, competition through advantage over the abundance of labor force with low expense is not considered as Vietnamese enterprises’ strength anymore.

As such, productivity and product’s quality are essential to enterprises’ competitiveness, especially for SMEs. The process of joining global value chain requires each enterprise to continuously searching for solutions, with an aim to reduce expense, restructuring production process, increasing productivity in context of limited technology, finance and labor force. The Vice Chairman of VCCI Vo Tan Thanh said, in the strategy to enhance Vietnamese enterprises’ competitiveness to efficiently take part in the global value chain, it is necessary to support enterprises with favorable conditions to maintain their foothold in theh domestic markets, as well as to successfully accessing the export market, which are of the priority of the government and related administrative agencies.

Besides, with the technical support from ILO, since 2011, VCCI-HCM in collaboration with SCORE of ILO has implemented training programs and consulting services for SMEs in wood processing fields in Binh Duong, Binh Dinh, Dong Nai, Long An and Ho Chi Minh city. Until present, the program has supported more than 140 enterprises in fields of wood processing, nearly 30 enterprises in mechanics and garments with positive results, such as: 91% enterprises reducing production expenses; 61% enterprises applying new measures to improve work relationship; reducing 29% problems occurring during the production chain; reducing 42% rate of quitting for employees. In addition, the program also helps improving the role of business associations in each province.

With positive results mentioned above, leaders of VCCI said, the development strategy in the coming time of the SCORE is to expand beneficiaries into new fields such as supporting industry, clothing, leather, food processing; electronics, through the application of new solutions and experience gained from SCORE, which has been developed and improved in period 2011 – 2017. On this occasion, an exhibition on the achievements of SMEs when taking part in training programs under SCORE will be held to share experiences and best practices of the program to the business community.
