Hanoi fosters conservation of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa relic site

Hanoi is accelerating the conservation project implementation at the two special national relic sites of the capital city.

The preservation of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa relic site in the center of Hanoi must be drawn up with archaeological and scientific basis to reach unanimity from experts and people, Hanoi Mayor Chu Ngoc Anh has said.

Being the chairman of the Steering Committee for the conservation of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa relic site, Anh has required the committee’s members to build up concrete projects, which must have a roadmap of preservation and communication programs to help people understand more about the work.

“These projects will be included in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021- 2025,” Anh said.

Addressing the meeting with the committee’s members held in Hanoi on June 15, Anh directed the committee’s members to coordinate with the departments of Education and Training and Tourism and relevant ministries and agencies to promote the preservation work.

Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong said that the Steering Committee should set up a master plan for the entire Thang Long Imperial Citadel with a focus on restoring Kinh Thien Palace. It’s also needed to raise public awareness about the national heritage value.

At the meeting, a representative of the Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center asked the municipal government’s authorities to raise entrance fees at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa relic site.

He said the Department of Education and Training should include visits to those sites in the extracurricular programs of schools as well as applying information technology in the management and promotion of heritage values.

The Steering Committee was set up in April under the direction of the Hanoi Party Committee with the task of directing, instructing, and inspecting the implementation of the preservation project at these two sites.

The Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center was assigned by the Hanoi People's Committee to be the investor of the projects. The center has carried out 20 projects, 13 of which have been completed and put into operation and the remainders are underway.
