Hanoi holds first-ever short film festival to celebrate Liberation Day

The festival is expected to attract many entries that will contribute to the cultivation of elegant style among Hanoians, as well as boost patriotism and national pride.

The first Hanoi Short Film Festival (Sao Khue Awards) with the theme "For a Thousand-year-old Hanoi" opened on the evening of August 26 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the capital's Liberation Day [October 10, 1954 - 2024].

Speaking at the opening ceremony, People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem, Chairman of the Hanoi Art and Literature Association, affirmed that the festival is a typical cultural event of the capital's artists, a place where short films about Hanoi converge, conveying unique styles and diverse cinematic languages.

"They will express a new, creative, and colorful perspective on the land and people of Hanoi with a thousand years of civilization. With the desire to discover and honor the writers and works of Hanoi cinema, it is hoped that the festival will see many works that contribute to cultivating an elegant style for Hanoians, fostering patriotism and national pride," Chiem stressed.

According to Tran Thi Van Anh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, the Hanoi Short Film Festival 2024 is expected to improve the quality of human resources in filmmaking and develop cultural industries in the capital in 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030-2045.

"This is also an opportunity for Hanoi's filmmakers to show off their talent and responsibility, to create cinematic works that truly reflect reality, and to promote a capital city of culture - civilization - modernity," Van Anh said.

The 2024 Hanoi Short Film Festival will run until August 28, with 32 entries, including 20 documentaries, ten animations and two shorts.

As part of the film festival, the Hanoi Cinema Association will organize seminars on cinema and short film production and screen international short films made by Hanoi cinema artists.
