Hanoi keeps residents updated on Typhoon Yagi aftermath via iHaNoi app

This digital citizen app for the capital has provided an essential communication channel, enabling residents to respond quickly and minimize potential damage to life and property.

In the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, Hanoi proactively informed residents about rainfall and flooding through the iHaNoi application, according to the Hanoi Department of Information and Communication.

The Media and Alerts feature of the app.

On the night of  September 10 and the morning of the following day, the Hanoi Department of Information and Communication mobilized the iHanoi programmers to update the app with the "Media and Alerts" feature.

The updates included critical information on changes to bus routes, roads with traffic restrictions, flood warnings for the Red and Duong Rivers, and notifications from districts about flood-prone areas.

These timely updates make the app an even more important communication channel, enabling residents to respond quickly and minimize potential damage to life and property.

Nguyen Tien Sy, Deputy Director of Hanoi's Department of Information and Communication, said the department had intensified weather updates before Typhoon Yagi made landfall, using various media platforms.

According to the Department, local newspapers published nearly 800 articles on the response and recovery efforts. In particular, Hanoi Radio and Television broadcast some 518 reports, including two special podcasts on the storm.

In addition, the department partnered with local businesses to create a comprehensive information portal and shared around 100 articles on social media about the storm's aftermath. The content focused on city management directives, public safety tips, and access to essential goods, he said.

The municipal authority plans to improve communication of weather and disaster updates through multiple channels.

"We will also instruct telecommunications companies to be proactive in their recovery efforts to ensure uninterrupted communications," Sy stressed.

On  June 28, iHaNoi, the digital capital's citizen application, was launched as part of the implementation plan for some of the platform applications under the government's Scheme 06.

The application reflects the City Administration's strong commitment and determination to the goal of "putting citizens and businesses at the center of services" while making effective use of the Government's Scheme 06 to provide utilities for digital citizens.
