Hanoi promotes urban planning and development in the next five years

The capital city will focus on perfecting the relevant institutions and legal corridors.

Hanoi will coordinate with local and foreign organizations to promote urban planning and development for the period 2021-2026.

This is one of the main contents of the cooperation agreement jointly signed by the Hanoi People's Committee, the Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association, and the Hanoi Urban Development Planning Association on December 6.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said that in the period of 2021-2026, Hanoi will focus on perfecting the relevant institutions and legal corridors, improving the capacity of human resources, reviewing the overall adjustments to the capital city's master project.

The vice chairman noted that over the past years, Hanoi has developed strategies and made plans to appraise and approve master projects to build framework infrastructure for attracting local and foreign investors, contributing to boosting the economy and creating jobs for laborers.

“However, in Hanoi’s urban planning and management there still remain some limitations and inadequacies posed by the current legal framework and arise from the practice, which has significantly affected the city’s development,” Tuan said.

“The participation of the community, agencies, units, consulting organizations and professional associations is very necessary so that the plan would be of high quality and feasible,” he added.

The parties have provided consultancy in a number of projects in line with the planning scheme for 2021-2026 of the Hanoi People's Committee. They have also cooperated with international organizations to give feedback on the adjustment project of Hanoi’s general planning, urban zoning projects, urban embellishment planning projects, among others.

“The volume of work in the field of planning is huge. Thus, the Hanoi People's Committee expects that the cooperation with the two associations, whose members are leading experts in the field of construction planning, will bring great results and valuable comments to help the city in improving the quality of construction planning and management,” Tuan concluded.

Echoing Tuan, President of the Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association Tran Ngoc Chinh emphasized this is an important event for his association, adding that they are willing to focus wisdom and energy to contribute to the city’s development and the construction of an increasingly modern capital.

For his part, President of the Hanoi Urban Development Planning Association To Anh Tuan said that this cooperation signing program is a step forward to formalize activities with the two associations.

“Members of the two associations have joined the city's major projects. The signing is a recognition for the two associations’ participation, contributing to facilitating members to further contribute to future initiatives of the capital city, creating closer and more effective cooperation between the two associations and the Hanoi People's Committee in the coming time,” Tuan said.
