Hanoi’s CPI increases considerably in June

According to the municipal Statistics Office (GSO) on June 22, the consumer price index (CPI) of Hanoi in June increased considerably the sixth consecutive month of growth.

Nine out of 11 groups of commodities posted price increases with the biggest rise seen in transportation services, mainly due to the price hike in petrol and oil. Petrol, diesel and kerosene prices rose by 680,168 and 200VND per litre, respectively.

The group of housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials also posted a high growth due to higher demand in summer. The group of restaurants and catering services showed a smaller increase compared to the previous month.

In June, gold price saw a rise of 0.69 percent and the VND/USD exchange rate was up 0.78 percent against last month. Other groups of commodities remained stable or experienced slight price change.

The highest hike was spotted in transportation services, which edged up 2.07 percent from April. The group of post-telecommunication and education remained stable while cultural, entertainment and tourism services experienced a decline of 0.19 percent. Gold price saw a rise of 1.5 percent and the VND/USD exchange rate was up 0.01 percent.

In the reviewed month, the capital’s export earnings were estimated to hit 897 million USD, rising 2.7 percent from April but declining 1.9 percent from the same month last year. Shipments of electronics, means of transport and spare parts, machinery and components continued to experience a rise while farm produce suffered a continual drop.

Other areas that saw light price rises were home appliances, apparel, headwear, footwear and education. In contrast, the prices of oil and petrol continued to go down, contributing to the sharp decrease in the transport sector. Some groups of commodities that also saw prices drop were housing, electricity, tap water, fuel and building materials.

The municipal People’s Committee is implementing several economic solution packages and administrative reform in order to tackle difficulties for local enterprises.
