May 15: Vietnam records 25 new Covid-19 cases, all imported

This is the largest number of cases confirmed in a day since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in late January.

Vietnam on Friday confirmed 25 more people infected with SARS-Covid-2, all of them are Vietnamese nationals returning from abroad, taking the tally to 313.

So far, 173 out of total 313 cases are from abroad. 

Of the newest cases, 24 came back from Russia on May 13 and one from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on May 3.

They were all quarantined after landing.

Vietnam has experienced 29 days without local transmission.

As of May 15, as many as 260 Covid-19 patients have recovered, accounting for 83% of the total infections.

Speaking at a government meeting on May 15, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Vietnam has no local transmission but needs to maintain vigilance on the pandemic amid global widespread infections and no vaccine against the virus yet.
