More and more automobiles and motorbikes to be produced

Vietnam is set to manufacture 200,000 automobiles and 4 million motorbikes in 2015, up 2 % against the 2011-2015 period, according to the Heavy Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Despite the sluggish sales of motorbikes, the automobile market saw signs of recovery, principally during the late 2014 compared to the corresponding period of 2012 and 2013.

Truong Thanh Hoai, head of the Heavy Industry Department attributed the remarkable car sales to a 2% in registration fee from 12 percent, noting that domestically-assembled trucks are gaining popularity, particularly light-weight category.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that 3.3 million cars and 128,000 motorbikes were manufactured last year. Approximately 2 million cars and 37 million motorcycles are being used in Vietnam, it added.
