Nearly 2,000 young Hanoians lit candles to honor national heroes

In the evening of June 26, at Mai Dich Cemetery (Hanoi), Hanoi City Youth Union in collaboration with Hanoi Capital High Command and Border Guard High Command held a tealight ceremony to pay tribute to Heroes and Martyrs as well as celebrate the 70th anniversary of invalids’ and martyrs’ day (27/7/1947 - 27/7/2017).

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Dao Duc Toan; Member of the Standing Committee of Hanoi Party Committee cum Head of the propaganda and training committee of Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong, and nearly 2,000 youth union members, cadres and soldiers in the capital.
Within the framework of the program, the Organizer offered incense at the Martyrs and Heroes Memorial, awarded 50 gifts to families of war invalids and martyrs who are in difficult situation in the city and all lit candles for gratitude and offered incense together with flowers at more than 1,700 graves of former leaders of the Party and the State, former revolutionists, heroes and martyrs resting in peace at Mai Dich cemetery.
According to Deputy Secretary of Hanoi City Youth Union Nguyen Ngoc Viet, the program is a meaningful and practical activity to express the deep gratitude and affection of the young generation to heroes and martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the country’s independence.
Over the past years, the young generation of the capital has been involved in different practical and effective activities, showing pride and upholding the nation’s good morals of "letting every man praise the bridge that carries him over", and volunteered to work together to carry out many meaningful things on the anniversary of war invalids and Martyrs. Some which can be mentioned are constructing 70 houses for policy beneficiaries, wounded soldiers, invalids, former youth volunteers in the city; organizing 2 free medical examinations and medicine distribution for more than 2,000 policy beneficiaries, people with meritorious services, former youth volunteers and disadvantaged families in My Duc and Ba Vi districts; holding 4 "Journeys following footsteps of heroes", visiting, giving gifts, building houses, offering incense at the graves of martyrs at the cemetery in Con Dao district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Truong Son cemetery on Road 9, Quang Tri Province; Dong Loc Junction and Vi Xuyen martyr's cemetery, Ha Giang province; together with visiting as well as giving gifts to more than 2,300 policy families, wounded soldiers, invalids and people with meritorious services to the revolution in the city.
Furthermore, the City Youth Union also organized activities of environmental sanitation, repair and cleanup of martyrs’ cemetery and martyrs’ memorial works in the locality.
"The time will pass, but the contribution of martyrs and heroes will forever be recorded in the glorious history of the nation as an everlasting epic… Candles and incense sticks offered by young people of today to heroes and martyrs show the promise of determination of the capital’s youth and units to further promote the revolutionary tradition of heroic Vietnam; never stop working, practicing and dedicating themselves to the cause of rich people, strong country, democracy, justice and civilization, as desired by those who once armed with guns to defend the nation", Deputy secretary of Hanoi City Youth Union emphasized.
At the same time with the City-level tealight ceremony, at the cemeteries in the whole city, units of the Youth Union lit candles to pay tribute, visited and gave gifts to heroic Vietnamese Mothers, wounded soldiers, invalids, relatives of martyrs and families of people with meritorious services to the revolution.
