Small and medium-sized enterprises play significant role in Hanoi’s economic growth

In the program “Business Night 2017” recently held in Hanoi, the authority emphasized that small and medium-sized enterprises are the driving force for the Capital’s socio-economic development.

The program drew the participation of Vuong Dinh Hue, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister (PM); Nguyen Duc Chung, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee; Vu Hong Khanh, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Hanoi chapter, representatives of departments, sectors, agencies and outstanding entrepreneurs.

Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Association Mac Quoc Anh said that, at present, the association has a total of nearly 2,000 members, 2 centers, 20 clubs and subordinate units in districts. In 2017, the association enrolled 168 new members, posting a year-on year surge of 20%; established the e-commerce business club and enrolled 3 Party’s members.

In addition, the association has strengthened foreign trade promotion with the model “Business Coffee” so as to exchange experiences and create favorable conditions for enterprises in production and trade; opened training courses to improve the management capacity in many fields.

Especially, on December 2, the Association in collaboration with the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade to organized a conference on strengthening supply and demand connection of goods to sever consumers during Lunar New Year festival 2018. 

Besides, as member of the Steering Committee for the campaign “Vietnamese people give priority to use Vietnamese products”, the Association has significantly contributed to successfully organizing the 8th Vietnamese favorite goods program.

The Association and its membership units have cooperated with the Hanoi Red Cross Association to launch the month for the poor and charity activities in the Central, provinces of Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, Tien Giang, Kien giang, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc. On the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27), the Association visited and presented gifts to invalids and sick soldiers in difficult circumstances and so on
 
Addressing the event, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that in 2017, the Capital’s economy continues to grow rapidly. Particularly, total product revenue records the highest year-on-year increase of 7.3% over past seven years; export turnover reaches USD 11.8 billion, up 10.3%; services is up 8.7%; tourists fetch 23.8 million, up 9%; total revenue of tourism posts an increase of 15%; total state budget revenue is estimated at VND 208.000 billion, posting a year-on-year surge of 16%, etc.

In 2017, the capital city has drastically and effectively implemented Resolution No. 35 and Directive No. 26 of the Prime Minister on supporting for businesses. Hanoi has been a destination attracting more investment. Total capital for off-budget investment projects reaches VND 181.142 billion (up 28%); FDI capital is estimated at USD 3.4 billion (up 9.3%); total capital for social investment fetches VND 308.5 thousand billion (up 11%), etc.
 
The Chairman noted that the city’s business communities in general and small and medium – sized enterprises in particular have had great contributions to the socio-economic development.
 
He highly appreciated the important role of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises’ Association in enhancing the cooperation among enterprises and their partners. The Association has cooperated with the Central’s ministries, sectors, agencies and the city’s departments, sectors, units to remove difficulties in fields of credit, tax, customs, import and export, etc, contributing to creating favorable conditions for business development, the Chairman added.
  
The Capital city selected the working theme “Improving the capacity and operational efficiency of the entire political system” for 2018 with a focus on strongly improving environment for investment and business; encouraging start-up enterprises and developing businesses for economic growth promotion. Thus, to fulfill the socio – economic development plan in 2018 with a target to 2020, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung requested local enterprises to improve the quality of their products to meet standards in the region and over the world.
 
Additionally, enterprises should raise the awareness  and enrich knowledge of international integration, such as regulations of WTO,  FTA Agreement, ASEAN Economic Community to take chances for production and trade promotion.
 
Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung asked the Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises to bring into full play its bridge role between the city administration and enterprise community to popularise policies among local enterprises.
