Sun Group proposes investment in Van Phong Airport
The project is estimated to cost VND7.9 trillion (US$309 million), targeting an annual capacity of 1.5 million passengers.
The Hanoi Times — Sun Group, Vietnam's real estate and entertainment firm, bids to invest in Van Phong International Airport, one of some proposed projects in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa at a meeting with the provincial People’s Committee on March 5.

Located in Van Thang Commune, Van Ninh District, the new airport is positioned 65km south of Nha Trang City, over 100km south of Cam Ranh Airport, and 48km north of Tuy Hoa Airport in Phu Yen Province.
The proposed airport will cover 497ha along the coast and is expected to handle 1.5 million passengers annually by 2030, with a target of 2.5 million by 2050. It is classified as a 4E facility by standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Sun Group is exploring 13 other projects in Khanh Hoa Province, including several urban developments such as Co Ma (scheduled to start construction in July 2025), Tu Bong, Dam Mon, and the high-end Ho Na resort, according to Khanh Hoa's electronic information portal.
The group also proposed to study the construction of the second phase of Phu Quoc International Airport under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model to support the APEC 2027 Summit and meet growing demand.
It has been awarded the construction of the Gia Binh International Airport project in the northern province of Bac Ninh, with a commitment to complete the project within 12 months.
Sun Group also owns Sun Air, the first luxury airline for high-end customers. At the meeting, Nghiem Xuan Thanh, Secretary of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, praised Sun Group's commitment to local projects. He urged the group to quickly develop a roadmap to help provincial leaders monitor the progress.
