Vietnam National Assembly Chairwoman and Prime Minister top in confidence vote

If an official gets "low confidence" votes from more than 50% of the voters, it is recommended that he or she resign from their respective posts.

Vietnam's National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc claimed the top two spots among 48 high-ranking officials in a vote of confidence held by the National Assembly on October 25.

In voting results released by the National Assembly on the same day, Ngan received the highest number of "high confidence" votes of 437 or 90.1% of total voters (475) among the 48 officials. Ngan was voted with "moderate confidence" by 34 National Assembly deputies and "low confidence" by other 4.

Phuc took the second place in terms of the number of "high confidence" votes with 393 or 81.03%, "moderate confidence" 68 and "low confidence" 14.

Meanwhile, Phung Xuan Nha, minister of Education and Training, fared the worst with the highest number of "low confidence" votes of 137. Nha also got 140 "high confidence" and 194 "moderate confidence" votes.

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The has the second highest number of "low confidence" votes, 107 votes, while his "moderate confidence" and "high confidence" votes were 221 and 142, respectively.

This vote has been held three times so far, with the previous ones in 2013 and 2014. This time, the National Assembly deputies voted on 48 officials, including the Prime Minister, the National Assembly Chairwoman and Vice State President.

This year, the President and the Minister of Information and Communications were not eligible to be voted on, as they are required to hold their respective positions for at least nine months before being voted on.

Among those officials, 13 were subject to a vote of confidence in 2013 and 15 in 2014.

If an official gets "low confidence" votes from more than 50% of the voters, it is recommended that he or she resign from their respective posts.
