Vietnam’s electronics firm found selling Chinese goods disguised as made-in-Vietnam

Asanzo’s production facilities actually only assemble televisions with components originated from China, a source told Tuoi Tre, while other electronic household appliances are imported entirely from China without a single component made in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s leading electronics firm Asanzo group has been found selling its self-claimed "made-in-Vietnam" products but actually imported from China, said Tuoi Tre newspaper in an investigative report.

In 2017, Asanzo’s electronic household appliances were awarded the title of “high quality Vietnamese goods” in a vote by the consumers.

Additionally, the Vietnamese origin of every product has been verified by the company and the slogan saying the products were developed from Japan’s high technology is printed on the package.

However, in fact, Asanzo’s production facilities actually only assemble televisions with components originated from China, Tuoi Tre quoted a source as saying, while other electronic household products are imported entirely from China without a single component made in Vietnam.

On September 7, 2018, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department checked a container number FCIU8689004 under ownership of Sa Huynh Company importing components for manufacturing electronic ovens from China at IDC Phuoc Long port.

Sa Huynh declared during its custom clearance process the container consisted of 970 plastic lids, 940 glass-made oven frames and 1,180 oven timer devices, all originated from China.

Upon opening the container, customs officials found 1,300 glass-made ovens under the brand of Asanzo.

Notably, each was put into a cardboard with guarantee card in Vietnamese language referring to the products being made by Asanzo using Japanese advanced technologies and hotline number 18001035.

Regarding this issue, CEO of Asanzo Dang Van Tam admitted its products are "not made-in-Vietnam" but "originated" from Vietnam, due to the fact the company imports components from China.

Tam said since the beginning of 2019, Asanzo has shifted its focus to producing televisions and air-conditioners, instead of electronic household products.
