Brazil, Vietnam to boost trade to US$10 billion by 2025

The countries target trade at $10 billion by 2025 and $15 billion by 2030 at the meeting between Vietnamese President Luong Cuong and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Hanoi on March 27. Bilateral trade reached a record $7.98 billion in 2024, up 12.2% year-on-year.

Ho Chi Minh City honors NGOs

Ho Chi Minh City pledged to strengthen cooperation with foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including expanding partnerships in health, education, and social affairs, at the 2025 Annual Conference with Foreign NGOs on March 28. The city approved 49 NGO aid projects worth $19 million, with a focus on sustainable development in 2024.

Vietnam urged to improve foreign investment climate

Vietnam needs to improve its investment environment and ensure policy consistency to attract foreign capital, experts said at a Ministry of Finance conference on March 28. They also called for clearer FDI rules, higher foreign ownership limits in key sectors.

Ho Chi Minh City's first film park was pitched during a youth dialogue on March 28. The project is in line with the city's application to UNESCO's Creative Cities Network in Film. If approved, Ho Chi Minh City could become Southeast Asia's first UNESCO-designated film city in 2025.

Naturalized defender looks to contribute to Vietnam national team

Cao Pendant Quang Vinh expressed his desire to be recognized by coach Kim Sang Sik and contribute to the national team after receiving Vietnamese citizenship on March 28. The CAHN (Cong An Ha Noi) defender, who is considered one of the best left-backs in Vietnam, has played 21 matches this season. He will now travel with his club to Indonesia for the AFC Cup ASEAN Zone semi-final on April 2.

Vietnam launches long-term strategy for Olympic and Asiad success

Vietnam aims to improve its sports performance with a national program for key Olympic and Asiad sports (2026-2046). The plan focuses on training, facilities and policies to ensure competitiveness. Goals include top three in the SEA Games, top 15 in the Asiad and top 50 in the Olympics by 2046, and World Cup qualification in men's football.

Earthquake in Myanmar causes tremors in Vietnam

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar at 1:20PM on March 28 caused tremors in Vietnam, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Office workers in high-rise buildings were evacuated as structures shook for up to 30 seconds. There were no immediate reports of injuries from the quake, which was also felt in Bangkok. Authorities are continuing to monitor for aftershocks.
