This session, scheduled to last until July 31, is expected to set the tone for the entire term of the 15th NA by voting for key positions in the Government, the legislature, Supreme People’s Court, Supreme People’s Procuracy, and the State Audit Office of Vietnam.

At this session, the National Election Council will brief deputies on the result of the national election on deputies of the 15th NA and all-level people’s councils for the 2021-2026 period, as well as the verification for eligibility of all NA deputies.

NA’s deputies will also discuss socio-economic and State budget reports in the first six months and make decisions on key issues of the country, including the five-year national finance plan; plan to borrow funds and pay the public debt in the 2021-2025 period; mid-term public investment plan 2021-2025; national investment program for new-style farming, poverty reduction and sustainable social welfare 2021-2025.

Under the 2013 constitution, newly-elected key positions of the country, including the NA Chairman, State President, Prime Minister, and Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court will then proceed with taking an oath of office.

In early June, the National Election Council has ratified the list of 499 elected deputies for the 15th National Assembly (NA) for the 2021-2026 tenure, in which four were self-nominated.
