112 people die from traffic accidents in six days of Tet

The National Traffic Safety Committee said that on February 7 (the third day of the Lunar New Year), 32 road accidents occurred nationwide, causing 15 deaths and 40 casualties.

Up to 177 traffic accidents happened across Vietnam in the first six days of the nine-day Tet holiday, which began on February 2, killing 112 people and injuring 150 victims, according to statistics of the Ministry of Public Security.

The National Traffic Safety Committee said that on February 7 (the third day of the Lunar New Year), 32 road accidents occurred countrywide, causing 15 deaths and 40 other injuries. In addition, a railway accident killed one person.

During the period, the traffic police force handled more than 2,000 cases of violation, fined nearly VND1 billion (US$43,000) and temporarily seized over 400 vehicles and 85 papers of all kinds.

Chief of the National Traffic Safety Committee's Office Nguyen Trong Thai said six-day statistical data has shown that traffic accidents had been less than expected. 

Compared to the Tet holiday of 2018, the traffic accidents caused fewer deaths and injuries. In particular, there has been no serious accident reported.
