The performance is part of the 2016 Homeland Spring programme on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year festival, which is chaired by the Foreign Ministry, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and Hanoi People’s Committee.
The “Homeland Spring” programme has become an annual event anticipated by OVs who return home for Tet.
Attending the event were President Truong Tan Sang, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung; and representatives of diplomatic corps, international organisations and OVs.
Addressing the event, President Truong Tan Sang praised the contributions of expatriates to the national development.
The President said that, despite many challenges in 2015, with the solidarity of the people and the Party, the country has gained many achievements in socio-economy, maintained national political stability and social order, contributing to protect national independence and sovereignty, strengthen the international relations and empower the country's position in the region and the world.
These achievements have been contributed significantly by Vietnamese abroad, President Sang stressed.
He also affirmed that overseas Vietnamese community is an unseparated part of the country. The Party, State and People recognised and appreciated the patriotism of the OVs, he said.
The President called on Vietnamese at home and abroad to unite and work harder for the cause of national construction and defence in order to turn Vietnam into a wealthy country.
Earlier in the afternoon of the same day, the State leader, his spouse and representatives of the OVs burnt incense at Hanoi’s Thang Long Imperial Citadel and released carp at the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site.
