From November 24 to 28, the 20th Vietnam Film Festival will take place in the central city of Da Nang.

This is announced by Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. Accordingly, the event aims to honor Vietnam’s best movies and promote the image of Vietnamese people, culture, and tradition to the world.
The highlight of the event has always been the ASEAN Film Award, which introduces the best movies in the region to the world and affirms the role of the cinema industry in strengthening culture and friendship among nations of the ASEAN community.
Diverse activities will be held during the 5-day event, including free outdoor screenings of films, seminars introducing the ASEAN film industry and an exhibition on Vietnamese cinema.
Organizers said they have closely worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affair and the embassies of the ASEAN nations in Vietnam, to ensure the success of the film festival.
The Vietnam Film Festival founded in 1970, is a film festival of Vietnam. It is considered as the major event of Cinema of Vietnam with awards for numerous categories ranging from the feature film, direct-to-video to documentary film. The festival is held for each two or three years in different host cities all over Vietnam with the latest was organized in 2007 in the city of Nam Đinh.
The first Vietnam Film Festival was held from August 18 to August 25, 1970, in Hanoi following an issue of Vietnamese Ministry of Culture with the purpose of “encouraging the development of the national cinema”.
For each festival, there are several juries of 7 to 11 members for different categories of feature film, direct-to-video, animated film and documentary film. The most prestigious prize of the festival is the Golden Lotus following by the Silver Lotus and the Special Prize of Jury. Up to 2007, there is 15 festival which took place in numerous cities of Vietnam with the 16th festival will be held in Ho Chi Minh City in December 2009.
