4.5 percent of labour force hold university degrees

Hanoi Times - By mid-2007, Vietnam has about 2.6 million people holding university degrees, representing 4.5 percent of the country’s labour force, a national seminar reported. The seminar, themed o­n “Developing Vietnam’s contingent of intellectuals – knowledge and business”, said the country’s intellectual line-up has rapidly developed in both quantity and quality over the recent years. The proportion of the intellectual force in the non-productive sector reached 71 percent, administrative sector – 22 percent, and the production sector – 7 percent, the seminar reported. The seminar is part of the preparation for the Party Central Committee’s 7th conference o­n the development of intellectual staff in the new stage of industrialisation, modernisation and international economic integration. The event drew the participation of management officials, intellectuals, scholars and representatives from over 100 enterprises all over the country
