Outstanding farmers nationwide who made great contributions to agriculture and the new-style rural area building programme will be honoured at the ceremony at Hanoi Opera House on October 14.
The awarding ceremony will be aired live on Vietnam Television’s Channel 1.
The honouring of the farmers is part of the “Proud of Vietnamese Farmers” programme, which was first held in 2013 with the aim of highlighting the examples of excellent farmers in the national construction and development.
The farmers awarded the title are selected based on four categories, which are the production and trade of agricultural products, the implementation of the new-style rural area building programme, the movement of safeguarding the national security and sovereignty, and scientific inventions and initiatives applicable in agricultural production.
At the press conference, Vice President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association Nguyen Hong Ly, who is also head of the programme’s organising board, noted that nearly 70 percent of Vietnam’s population are farmers, and half of the nation’s workforce work in the agriculture sector.
Earlier, the Nong Thon Ngay Nay (Rural Area Today) Newspaper announced winners of the third writing contest on Vietnamese farmers, including a first prize, two second and three third prizes, and five consolation prizes.
