The Hanoi People’s Committee on May 5 organized a ceremony to launch the Action Month for Work Safety and Hygiene 2018 under the theme “Proactively preventing dangerous, harmful elements in working places to reduce occupational accidents and diseases”.
The launching ceremony saw the attendance of Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee; Phung Thi Hong Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Municpal People’s Council, representatives of departments and specialized agencies and 1,200 laborers representing for more than 2.5 million workers, public servants, employees in the area.
At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy officially launched the Action Month for Work Safety and Sanitation.
He affirmed that it is vital to ensure safe working conditions in production and trade, contributing to preventing occupational risks and reducing accidents and diseases.
According to the city leader, the action month aims to urge all levels, sectors, collectives to enhance the management and inspection of work safety and sanitation; ask agencies, enterprises, units to well carry out Law on Work Safety and Sanitation, contributing to improving working conditions and protecting employees’ health and assets of the State, enterprise and people.
On the occasion, the Vice Chairman requested Party Committees, authorities at all levels, enterprises, manufacturing and trading facilities and laborers to positively respond to the month.
He also asked departments, sectors, localities to strengthen the popularization of the action month’s purpose and significance; launch emulation movements to improve technologies and working conditions and take care of employees’ health.
The month takes place from May 1 to 31 through the city. After the launching ceremony, sectors, units and localities organize a wide range of practical activities to ensure work safety in the area.
In 2017, Hanoi recorded 254 occupational accidents, killing and injuring 269 people, increasing 149 cases compared to 2016.
At the launching ceremony, many collectives and individuals received certificates of merit of the Municipal People’s Committee, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Municipal Confederation of Labour.
