Agro scientist honored with Kovalevskaya Award
President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man hoped female scientists would inspire the following generations to keep persevering on the path of scientific research, especially the field of natural science in which few female scientists are working in.
A Vietnamese female scientist and a group of female researchers who stood out in environment and agriculture research were given annual Kovalevskaia 2018 award.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, director of the Vietnam National University of Agriculture, and representatives of a group of female environmental scientists at the Hanoi University of Science received the Kovalevskaya Award in Hanoi on March 4.
Lan (born in 1974) has become the youngest woman to be presented with the Kovalevskaya Award, which honors outstanding female scientists. The scientist has published 105 researches in Vietnam and overseas (29 ISI/Scopus publications and 79 domestic publications) and many of her findings have been applied in agriculture, especially the test kit for the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), blue-ear pig disease, microbial product used to make biological padding in livestock husbandry, among others.
The collective prize was awarded to female scientists in the Department of Environmental Technology, Department of Environment, Hanoi National University with many achievements in waste treatment and utilization, and environmental quality analysis and evaluation.
In addition to the award, the Kovalevskaia Scholarships 2018 were also presented to three girls with outstanding academic achievements.
