Vietnamese goods reach rural areas through Tet fairs
Hanoi is intensifying communication and outreach for the “Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods” campaign to boost consumption ahead of Tet, the country’s most important holiday.
THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnamese goods have been brought to rural areas, suburbs and industrial zones through mobile sales points or spring fairs to ensure the supply of essential goods, stabilize prices and create a vibrant Tet shopping atmosphere in the countryside.
Nguyen The Hiep, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, said that to meet the shopping needs of rural people, especially during holidays and Tet, the department annually coordinates with communes to survey and organize sales points to serve the locals.
“The products on display are all domestically-produced goods with clear origins, focusing on essential food items and price-stabilized goods,” said Hiep.

The department and businesses have been organizing 28 Vietnamese markets in 26 suburban communes. Through these activities, retail businesses have brought goods accounting for 10% of the total value of goods sold during Tet to serve suburban residents.
The Tet markets are enthusiastically received by the people, and participating businesses are also very pleased with the public's interest in their products.
Nguyen Quang Chien, Director of Phan Thiet Seafood Company, said that before participating in the Tet market, the company spent time researching the psychology and shopping habits of suburban residents to select key products to sell to help rural people access quality goods at reasonable prices.
One of the key highlights of Tet sales points in suburban areas is the focus on promoting One Commune One Product (OCOP) items, local specialties, handicrafts and representative products from various regions across the country.
The wide variety of products have met shopping needs and provided people with more choices for traditional gifts and presents.
For businesses and production facilities, the program is an important opportunity to introduce brands, promote products and find partners.
Through direct trade promotion activities, many OCOP products and local specialties have the opportunity to reach consumers, expanding markets, increasing value and enhancing competitiveness.

Sharing the benefits the events brings to people in suburban areas, Hoang Xuan Doan from Suoi Hai Commune, a suburban area of Hanoi, said that the goods on display are very diverse, with many designs and types.
“We have great confidence in the quality of goods sold at the events organized by the Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with the local authorities because they are all high-quality Vietnamese goods with beautiful designs. Especially, the prices are stable, meeting the needs and budgets of the people,” Doan told The Hanoi Times.
Vuong Thu Hoa, a resident from Phuong Duc Commune, shared that people now want to use goods of guaranteed quality, because there are many counterfeit and fake products on the market.
“The exhibitions or spring fairs have given people more peace of mind when shopping, and have created a shopping atmosphere similar to that in central Hanoi. Thanks to the programs, shopping for Tet goods is very convenient,” said Hoa.
Nguyen Trong Vinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuong Duc Commune, said that the exhibitions have created a lively, joyful and exciting shopping atmosphere for the people before the upcoming Lunar New Year.
“The goods are almost imbued with the spirit of Tet, helping rural residents easily choose safe and meaningful products for their families.
Moreover, it will gradually connect consumers with domestic businesses, effectively implementing the campaign 'Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods'," said Vinh.
