Ambassador to help more New Zealand businesses going to Vietnam

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has expressed his hope that Ambassador of New Zealand to Vietnam Wendy Irene Matthews will serve as a bridge to help more New Zealand businesses coming to Vietnam to explore investment opportunities.

Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc received new Ambassador of New Zealand to Vietnam Wendy Irene Matthews in Hanoi on February 22.
During the reception, the PM suggested increasing high-level delegation exchanges, adding that he hopes to welcome the New Zealand Prime Minister at the APEC Economic Leaders’ meeting 2017 in Vietnam.
PM Phuc noted that Vietnam expects to cooperate with New Zealand in the field of agriculture, energy, agro-fisheries processing industry, support industry, climate change adaptation and defence-security.
He expressed his hope that Vietnam and New Zealand will work to elevate their relations to a strategic partnership.
PM Phuc expected that the two-way trade will increase from the current 700 million USD to 3-5 billion USD during the term of Ambassador Wendy Irene Matthews.
The Government leader asked the diplomat to serve as a bridge to help more New Zealand businesses coming to Vietnam to share experience and explore investment opportunities.
He also stressed cooperation potential in tourism and education.
For her part, Ambassador Wendy Irene Matthews said she will try her best efforts to strengthen the two countries’ relations across economics, politics, diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges, in a bid to lift the bilateral ties to strategic partnership.
The ambassador highlighted education and agriculture as two key pillars in the two countries’ relations, adding that New Zealand will continue providing scholarships to Vietnamese students and English training for Vietnamese officials.
She said New Zealand has strength in agriculture and wants to cooperate with Vietnam in this field, especially clean vegetable and dragon fruit.
