ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network set up

The ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs` Network (AWEN) was established at a ceremony in Ha Noi on April 22.

The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Connectivity through Trade and Investment (ACTI) activity.

The AWEN, a regional network of national women entrepreneurs’ associations, create a regional forum for ASEAN women entrepreneurs to share information, knowledge and experience relating to policies, business environment, investment and socio-political issues and their impacts on business opportunities.

It looks to create a favorable environment for businesses owned by women, increase awareness and support for businesswomen in the region.

The establishment of AWEN is initiated by Viet Nam. 

It becomes part of the working plan of the ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW) in the phase from 2011-2015 and the overall plan of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) in the phase from 2011-2015.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, Chairwoman of the Viet Nam Women Entrepreneurs Council will be the chairwoman of the AWEN in 2014 and 2015.

Towards the establishment of an ASEAN Community, the AWEN will help boost up economic and trade activities in the region and between ASEAN and its partners, said Minister of the MOLISA Pham Thi Hai Chuyen at the ceremony.

Delegates discussed short and long-term priorities, joint activities and partners of the network from 2014 to 2020 and complete its working plan in 2014-2015.
