Blaze burns down local tenement

The fire, which broke out at midnight on September 12, claimed dozens of lives.

A tenement building on Khuong Ha Street in Khuong Dinh Ward, Thanh Xuan District, caught fire late at night on September 12. The fire destroyed the nine-story building and claimed dozens of lives.

By 5 a.m., firefighters rescued about 70 people and took more than 50 of them to hospital for treatment. The tenement is home to about 150 residents.

The nine-story tenement is located in a deep, narrow alley, making it difficult for fire trucks to access. Firefighters had to use motorcycles to get their apparatus and equipment to the site.
