Boosting application of information technology to ensure traffic safety
This is the request of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at a conference in Hanoi on December 8 to ensure traffic safety order in 2016-2020 period.

The National Traffic Safety Committee held a conference on December 8 in Hanoi to review the implementation of ensuring road traffic safety from 2011-2015 anf orientations for 2016-2020 period.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Head of the National Traffic Safety Committee urged all localities to find out solutions to reduce the number of traffic accidents by 5-10 percent and fatalities by 5,000 between 2016 and 2020.
After five years of implementation of measures to ensure traffic safety, the Deputy PM attributed the significant changes to the implementation of the Government’s Resolution No.88/NQ-CP on intensifying measures to ensure traffic safety.
According to the Ministry of Public Security’s Transport Police Department and the Ministry of Transport’s Vietnam Maritime Administration, 158,125 traffic accidents occurred across the country in 2010-2015 period.
The figures represented a decline of 18.06 percent in the number of cases and 20.52 percent and 22.33 percent in the number of deaths and injuries, respectively.
Localities achieving notable outcomes in the fields included Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh, Tay Ninh, and Da Nang.
According to Deputy PM Phuc, in the past five years, the situation of traffic congestion in Hanoi and HCM City have had positive changes, the number of traffic accidents has continued to decrease in all 3 criteria (number of cases, deaths and injuries) compared with the previous period.
However, Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out limitations and shortcomings and reckoned that traffic accident death toll of 9,000 remains very high.
He stressed that enhancing public awareness of traffic safety culture is imperative to ease congestions and reduce traffic accidents.
The Deputy PM also suggested boosting the application of information technology to ensure traffic safety and better urban planning. Apart from propaganda, it is necessary to strengthen inspection and handle strictly the violation to limit traffic accidents.
On the ocsasion, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc launched the emulation movement to ensure traffic safety in 2016-2020 period.
