Scientists have determined the cause of unusual fish deaths in the central region. The Prime Minister has also assigned appropriate bodies to invite domestic and foreign consultants to have independent commentaries, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung said at the press conference, held on June 2.
Addressing the monthly Government press conference, which was held on June 2, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung revealed that the cause of recent mass fish deaths in the central region has been identified.
The Prime Minister has also assigned appropriate bodies to invite domestic and foreign consultants to have independent commentaries, he added.
Chairman Mai Tien Dung noted that more than 30 ministries and central branches jointly collected and verified the evidence for establishing the cause of mass fish deaths.
Besides, hundreds of local and international scientists also participated in to determine the cause of recent mass fish deaths, the Chairman said.
"It is very important, so before any official conclusion, it is necessary to have commentaries from domestic and foreign scientists and consultants. Once it is publicised, it must ensure sufficient proofs, legality and objectiveness,” Minister Dung emphasised.
The Prime Minister (PM) has also instructed drastic solutions to ensure that the natural environment, especially the sea environment, be safe and sustainable. The PM ordered strict punishments on any organisations and individuals who committed violations.
On May 19, the Government also requested the provision of rice aid for fishermen living in affected areas, financial assistance for fishing vessels which had to temporarily stop operations, and lending interest rate subsidies for fisheries logistic service providers and fish traders.
The PM recently asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to check projects which are likely making the discharge of waste water.
At present, the ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development and Health have been assigned to check sea areas which are safe for fishing and aquaculture.
During the press conference, Minister of Information and Communication Truong Minh Tuan said the unusual fish deaths in the central region are a serious environmental incident that has never happened.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan noted that the scientists have been trying to find the cause.
The Government expects to listen to every opinion and is responsible for providing transparent information to people, according to the Minister of Information and Communication.
