Chan May Port expected to welcome 40 cruise ships in 2019

In 2019, Thua Thien-Hue aims to welcome 4.5-4.7 million visitors, with Chan May playing a key role in tourist attraction.

Chan May Port has made its name on the tourism map the the region and the world, expected to welcome 40 cruise ships in 2019, including many luxurious vessels.

The port has welcomed Celebrity Constellation, a luxury ship with more than 2,000 passengers from the US, Canada, the UK, France on January 28, 2019. During this time, all foreign tourists have a chance to visit Hue's ancient capital, Da Nang, and Hoi An ancient town.
Apart from Celebrity Constellation, other luxurious ships including Star Cruises, Skysea Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Costa Crociere, Ovation of the Seas have anchored in Chan May Port, carrying thousands of foreign visitors to Thua Thien-Hue province. Among them, Celebrity Millennium of the US’s Royal Caribean Cruise Lines has visited Chan May Port five times.
Earlier, Chan May Port has been named among 46 seaports in Southeast Asia as stops for pleasure boats, according to a list released by the Asia Cruise Association.
It is planned to accommodate six general cargo wharfs with total length of 1,680m by 2020,  eight wharfs with total length of 2,280m by 2030 along with wharfs for oil and gas tankers and tourist boats.
After being upgraded, Chan May Port now can serve 30,000 DWT ships and those with over 3,000 - 4,000 passengers.
Located between Da Nang city and the ancient capital city of Hue, near UNESCO-recognized vestiges such as Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary, Chan May is the nearest and most convenient gateway to the East Sea from the East-West Economic Corridor, and a main port on the sea route connecting Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong (China) and Vietnam.
In 2019, Thua Thien-Hue aims to welcome 4.5 - 4.7 million visitors, with Chan May playing a key role in tourist attraction. In 2018, the locality welcomed more than 4.3 million visitors, a rise of 14%, of whom 134,100 were aboard 54 cruise ships, a rise of 5% year-on-year.
