Chinese vessels provoke Vietnamese coast guard

On May 13, China used 9 types of vessels to protect its drilling rig Ocean-981, including, military, coast guard, maritime surveillance, fishery administration and transport ships, according to the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG).

During the day, China used 86 ships as an escort force, protecting illegal operations of its drilling rig Ocean- 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

The same day, China also used 3 ships-maritime surveillance vessel 7028, coast guard ship 46001 and an unknown ship sieged Vietnam’s Coast Guard vessel 4032.

However officers and soldiers on board strictly complied with the guidance of the Coast Guard Command that is proactive, calm, not provocative, patient and courageous aiming to safeguard the country’s sea and island sovereignty and continental shelf as well as maintain a peaceful and stable environment in the region.
