From my standpoint, reason for the growing number of unemployed university graduates in the third quarter of 2017 is due to the closing academic year of universities. For students expecting graduation in the second quarter of 2017, it often take them from 3 to 4 months to look for jobs, in some case even 6 months.
Besides, as in other quarters, the low demand for new employement also affects university graduates looking for jobs.

The linkage in training between universities and enterprises is inefficient. Many researches and studies showed that, most graduates from universities and vocational schools do not get jobs right away, as they have to learn additional skills. Many enterprises have to train new employees from 3 – 6 months, otherwise students have to learn soft skills, foreign languages and IT. These are shortcomings in our training process, which should be changed in the coming time.
How to narrow the gap between universities to enterprises?
At present, we are working toward a better cooperation between universities and enterprises. In this linkage, enterprises should take part in developing teaching materials and create conditions for students to do internship, thus getting accustomed to enterprises from the early. As such, students were not only equipped with theory, but also get practiced and understand what enterprises need. I think only by this way, students can meet the demand of enterprises. At present, many universities are going toward this direction, and students get employed before gradutation.
What are challenges for Vietnamese labor force in the industrial revolution 4.0?
The Industrial revolution 4.0 is posing many challenges. Recent studies showed that, by applying automation technologies, low silled employees in production chain of textile & garment, electronics and footwear have the risk of getting replaced and losing jobs. A part of this is coming from low rate of trained employees. Even with employees get trained, their qualities are still low, especially with core skills, soft skills, creativiy, team working, and foreign languages.
Therefore, if we do not have changes in strategy and teaching methods to tackle these shortcomings, there will be challenges in maintaining the current employment rate.
Thank you!
