Hang Nga Guesthouse, dubbed the “Crazy House” in the Central Highlands town Da Lat, has been recognized for its extraordinary exterior which resembles a monstrous banyan tree.
Around one kilometer from the center of Da Lat, the guesthouse was officially opened in 1990, and has been compared to the amazing architecture of world-acclaimed constructions such as the Salvador Dalí Museum and Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The design by Vietnamese architect Dang Viet Nga was inspired by the poetic natural scenery of the dreamy city and the architectural works of Catalan master Antoni Gaud.
Once forgotten, it has now emerged as one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vietnam’s city of love, where visitors have to pay for VND50,000 (US$2.20) for an entrance ticket to satisfy their curiosity.
Lam Dong is the most popular destination in the Central Highlands, attracting 78.34 of total visitors to the region, according to the Steering Committee for the Central Highland Region.
It is home to the famous resort city of Da Lat, which embraces the typical natural and cultural features of the Central Highlands. The city, nestled at 1,500 metres above sea level, is quiet and pretty all year with mild climate and temperatures varying between 15 and 24 degree Celsius.
The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong welcomed more than 1.6 million visitors in the first quarter of 2018, up 10.3% year-on-year and fulfilling 25% of the province’s yearly plan. The number of foreign tourists to the locality reached 120,000, up 7.5% and completing 25% of the target, according to Lam Dong People’s Committee.
