Danang to host East Seas Congress

The fifth East Seas Congress (ESC) will take place in the central city of Danang from Nov.17-21, announced the city People’s Committee on Oct. 1.

The event will include the 5th Ministerial Forum and Senior Government Officials' Meeting (SGOM), a cooperation council meeting, a youth forum, an international seminar on water resources, a coastal and ocean sustainable management forum and environment exhibition.

On the occasion, Danang will also organise the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA)’s Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Coastal Development (PNLG) on November 16.

The ESC is held every three years in PEMSEA member countries. It took place in Malaysia in 2003, China in 2006, the Philippines in 2009 and the Republic of Korea in 2012.

The PEMSEA managing director Adrian Stephen Ross thanked Danang for hosting the event and said “Building a national demonstration sites for integrated coastal management” project has been implemented in the city since 2000. Hosting the event will help Danang introduce the project to international friends.
