Danang’s second field hospital completed, ready to treat Covid-19 patients

If the number of patients increases sharply, the number of beds at the hospital can be raised to 2,000.

The field hospital, located at the 94,000-square-meter Tien Son sports center in Hai Chau district of Danang, has been completed on August 5 after four days of construction and waiting for Ministry of Health’s evaluation.

Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms will be referred here to ease burden on hospitals in Danang. The makeshift hospital is expected to contain nearly 800 beds, capable of receiving and treating 1,500 patients. The number of beds could be raised to 2,000 when needed.

Each four-square-meter room has two beds. Each room is separated from the aisle by screens to limit cross-contamination.

As the hospital is in operation, there will be doors for exit and entry only, ensuring safety for both patients and doctors in the treatment and isolation areas. The entrances to the hospital ensure natural ventilation for the treatment area.

All the rooms are numbered and each is equipped with a fan.

Workers are finishing the final stages of the temporary hospital, the second one in Danang. The first field hospital was built in Hoa Vang Clinic in Hoa Vang outlying district and became operational on July 31.

On the 4th floor, there is a VIP room for observing all treatment and examination activities.

Ngo Thi Kim Yen, director of Danang’s Department of Health, said that the hospital would have a laboratory for blood, hematology, biochemistry and ion testing. The simple test will be conducted here while the more complicated will be carried out in other health facilities.

Yen also said that though the pandemic is becoming more complicated, with the support of the Ministry of Health and other provinces, local leaders believe that they could soon push back the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Department of Health has appointed a deputy director in charge of this hospital. In addition to local human resources, the Ministry of Health has mobilized nurses and doctors from other hospitals throughout the country to assist Danang in medical examination and treatment.

Next to the VIP room area is a resting and reception area and which can be used as a place for meeting and discussing.

The hospital was built by a Vietnamese private corporation. On August 2, Danang city’s Party Secretary Truong Quang Nghia assessed the temporary hospital is the most viable solution in the current situation to ease burden on other hospitals in Danang.
