Ha Noi to spend $10.7 million on developing special pomelos

By 2025, the city aims to plant 200ha of pomelo varieties of Tan Lac, Dien, Tam Van and Tho Bach Ha and they will be grown in a safe way.

Hanoi plans to spend about VND246 billion (US$10.7 million) on developing Tan Lac red pomelo and some other speciality pomelo varieties.
Permanent vice chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Van Suu signed the decision No 5343 / QD-UBND on the plan for development of Tan Lac red pomelo and other special varieties of Hanoi’s pomelos for the period 2021 – 2025.

According to the decision, during these five years, Hanoi will focus on building and developing pomelo growing areas under the standards of VietGAP and GlobalGAP to meet the requirements of people in the city and export.
By 2025, the city aims to plant 200ha of pomelo varieties of Tan Lac, Dien, Tam Van and Tho Bach Ha and they will be grown in a safe way.
The city will also establish three pomelo farms linking production and product consumption; build and maintain three collective trademarks and provide three global codes to trace the origin of concentrated pomelo growing areas.
The expense to implement this plan is nearly VND246 billion, of which the city budget will support VND84.5 billion ($3.6million), the remainder will be sourced from organisation and individual beneficiaries.
The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is responsible for guiding and co-ordinating with relevant departments and units to implement the plan.
According to statistics of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the city now has 5,700ha growing pomelo with the output of over 62,000 tonnes per year, reaching an average of 2.0-2.2 tonnes per hectare. These pomelo varieties have a long harvest time from September to January the following year, so they can easily meet the requirements of production and consumption.
In recent years, many districts in the city have chosen pomelo to restructure their agricultural sector, converting to high-quality plant cultivation.
