At a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, both officials agreed that the two nations’ comprehensive partnership has advanced positively and substantially in all aspects. Vietnam attaches importance to reinforcing the friendship and comprehensive cooperation with the U.S. on the basis of respect for each other’s political regime, affirmed Mr. Minh.

The two sides vowed to continue delegation exchanges and contacts at high levels. Deputy PM Minh repeated Vietnamese leaders’ invitation to U.S. President Donald Trump to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and dialogues with businesses in the central city of Da Nang this November. He also took this occasion to invite Tillerson to visit Viet Nam in the near future.

For his side, Mr. Tillerson expressed his desire to participate in activities within the framework of the APEC Vietnam 2017. Sharing understanding on the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, stability and development in the region, the two diplomats also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concerns.

Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh highlighted progress in the Viet Nam-UK strategic partnership, particularly in economics, trade and investment at his meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
He hailed the initiative of establishing an informal dialogue mechanism to discuss measures for facilitating bilateral trade in the context of the UK’s upcoming negotiations on its exit from the EU.

Mr. Johnson asserted that the UK will keep strengthening multi-faceted cooperation with Viet Nam and continue its support for stronger trade ties between Vietnam and Europe. The two sides agreed to closely coordinate in organizing activities marking the 45th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties in 2018. The pair agreed to continue cooperation following the success of the conference on illegal wildlife trade held in Hanoi last November.

They also discussed international and regional issues of common concerns, sharing the view on the importance of maintaining peace, stability, freedom, security and safety of navigation and aviation; protecting the rule of law in seas and oceans; and resolving disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
