Youth footsteps echo on Ba Dinh Square ahead of September 2 parade
Ba Dinh Square is filled with the sound of marching as young people prepare for the nation’s biggest celebration.
THE HANOI TIMES — A group of 180 students from the Hanoi University of Sports and Physical Education is training daily to join the parade marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
They were selected through strict standards on height, health, and discipline. Organizers believe this block will be among the most synchronized of the 14 civilian groups in the parade.
Training takes place from early morning to late afternoon under harsh weather. Shoes get soaked in sudden rain, and sweat pours in the summer heat, but the rhythm of footsteps never breaks.
Many students have put aside studies and sports practice to commit fully to this duty. Behind the uniform lines is the sacrifice of time, energy, and personal plans.
Nguyen Thu Thuy, a second-year student and volleyball athlete, said that the hardest part is keeping 180 people in perfect line.
“Rain drenches us, sun burns our skin, but we keep marching because we carry the pride of our generation,” she said.
Thuy is known for her volleyball titles and top academic records, making her one of the most outstanding members.
She recalled waiting for hours before practice, using the time to sing and talk with friends to keep spirits high.
Luong Duc Tung, a basketball player and member of the school’s Youth Union, said that his family was proud when he was selected.
“Since August 11, we have trained every day for hours. Nearly 200 people must stay disciplined so we can move like one,” he noted.
For him, the honor is both personal and collective. “Marching on Ba Dinh Square will erase all fatigue. The cheers of the people will be our reward.”
Despite heavy rain or burning sun, the group keeps going. What remains is determination to show unity and pride on the parade day.
Visiting the contingent, Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of the Central Youth Union and Chairwoman of the National Team Council, said that they represent the spirit and vitality of Vietnam’s youth, the future leaders of the country.
