Hanoi youth spread green message after parade rehearsal

During rehearsals for Vietnam’s 80th National Day parade, youth volunteers in blue shirts stood out with their practical support.

THE HANOI TIMES — Nearly 200 youth volunteers from Cua Nam Ward supported the parade rehearsals in Hanoi by distributing free water and cleaning up litter around Hoan Kiem Lake, helping to keep the city clean while spreading awareness of civic responsibility.

Large crowds gathered around the lake and along the main streets. Although many spectators tried to keep the area tidy, the volume of people often left the streets messy after the events. The volunteers stepped in to fill the gap.

At the Hanoi Opera House, they handed out water, guided people into lines, and stayed behind to collect bottles and bags left on the ground.

“We saw trash after the rehearsal, so we cleaned it up right away. Some visitors even joined us, which made the work more meaningful,” said Dao Minh Duc, a volunteer from Cua Nam Ward.

Residents near Hoan Kiem Lake said they were pleased with the effort. “Even with so many people, the streets were clean again by morning. It makes us happy to see the young people caring for the neighborhood,” said a local shop owner.

Their late-night work showed that supporting the rehearsals went beyond logistics, helping to keep Hanoi orderly and clean.

Dam Quang Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Secretary of Cua Nam Ward's Youth Union, said the locality mobilized close to 200 young people for the rehearsals, covering 50 intersections and seven water stations along the parade route. “Our role is to support, and to remind people to respect urban order and environmental hygiene,” he noted.

As Hanoi prepares for the 80th anniversary of National Day, the dedication of the Youth Union volunteers stands out as a clear example of young people willing to contribute and serve the community.
